“All City” Page 3
A little post preparation after throwing up a piece may be a bit EXTREME, but necessary in a world ravaged by the undead.
One of the thing I wanted to explore with Zombie Years has always been my fascination of a post-apocalyptic landscape. This is of course a more romanticized notion of it, something that runs along side “Night of The Comet” or the Mad Max series of course. Something about the modern world being torn down, social norms shutdown, and the rise of ones own effort and wits being more apparent and needed.
Plus it’s fun to draw.
SO using the backdrop I know best, I used Miami. It’s funny though, how in my research of such places, that there would be a good chance, after 4-5 years, that Miami could easily slip underwater, but also the amount it could deteriorate too. Look at Gunkanjima – Battleship Island off the coast of Japan, an abandoned island-city, Hashima remains untouched in the nearly forty years since its 5000 or so occupants vacated by boat, taking with them only a few scant possessions. You can see how the island sea bound town is falling apart from the salty air and ocean waves… I wonder how Miami would fair against such forces?
Hmmmmm.
SPECIAL NOTE THIS WEEK: on Saturday and Sunday is the premiere of the come back of VIGIL, a Superhero webcomic I did for may years at Graphicsmash. I recently got on the reins again with some stories, and it’s back. All this week we’ll be premiering various cover paintings for it too, so feel free to take a look!
