“Is this It?” Pg. 7

WAIT! WHOSE THAT ON THE HORIZON!?!?! ( ooh, da mystery)

Been working on the buffer for ZY, and the pages are coming out great. I’m getting more and more of a handle on my inking and getting more comfortable with it as I go. It’s still a bit daunting but it helps that I have some really bad ass podcast to listen to while doing so. Let me tell you:

+“Art and Story” both regular and in EXTREME versions (now with fewer calories!). This podcast deals with all the different aspects of comic book making from the basics of drawing and tool use, all the way to the finishing, refinishing, and advertisement etc. It really delves into the stuff, I mean Mark Rudolph will REALLY get into Bristol board and you may think it’s EXTREME but for any of us inkers, we take it to heart! Jerzy Drozd also tackles a lot of the Theory on comics and I think they are smart and on the ball about it. Oh and they are Hilarious too, really making the show entertaining. This is one of the podcast that I get more spin on my Itunes than anything else.

Dan Carlin’s “Hardcore History” and “Common Sense” podcasts. First, I love these podcasts, but they are so heavy on info, and I’m talking about Good Stuff, that it may take a bit to digest. I always have to rewind on it because he’ll touch on something, and I have to hear it again. “Hardcore History” is great for any history buff, especially a leisurely one like me, but it not only gets into the nitty gritty, but also theory and possibilities of history and how it relates today. To me it’s one of the best podcasts out there. “Common Sense” is new to me, and deals with a very centered and powerful look at politics today but with good eye on history and all eyes on a certain topic. I’ve only heard 2 or 3 of these but they all have been informative and an awesome learning experience. Dan Carlin himself is great, he’s funny, but he also really approaches subject with passion, and not some overtly ridiculous sort of thing, no, it’s a real love of knowledge and the subject and even debates himself with many things he brings up. Really a good listen for travelling too.

+“Around Comics The Comic Book Culture Podcast, is to me the best GEEKY comics podcast there is. I think the opinions are awesome and really the overall look on comics is great, and from knowledgeable guys who love the form and appreciate it and hate it at the same time. They are jovial and witty to downright dumb funny and i think it’s great. unlike others podcast, which I will not name, that are on comics, these guys are just cool and laid back. I really hate the low S.O. podcasts out there with people who seem to ruminate in their fucking nerd-dom. Not these guys. I listen to this alot while drawing and always have a chuckle and it’s even introduced me to new music with it’s ever changing music feature in each episode.

So yeah I listen to a lot more than that, along side lots of music and such, but these tend to be in rotation in the studio most of the time. I’m trying to get into the language podcasts but since I’m drawing while listening it’s sort of hard to do. If you dig any of these, take a listen and tell them ZY sent you.

BTW: So if anybody was by here on Monday you may have seen that the site was down. Seems Dreamhost was moving some of the equip so you may have gotten the 500 Internal Service Error and all that. Sorry about that, but it was out of my hands and its supposed to make the site more stable.

Till next week, same ZOMBIE CHANNEL at the same ZOMBIE TIME, this ZOMBIE YEARS, every WEDNESDAY…
