I wanted to relate all the shit that could possibly be going through Franks mind in that moment, when engulfing flames were coming at him.
Have you ever had that? That moment of slow motion as shit hits the fan, like say a car accident? Where everything is spinning and going and either your mind if going a million miles an hour, or time just went into molasses mode. I think it’s where the experience of “Life Flashing Before Your Eyes” comes from, your mind jaunts into a million places in a split second.
I want to show that here.
I was reading up on various ways of working that, some are really smart, and others are tried and true, but have never stuck, and some, as good as they are, the format just doesn’t work for me.
Those are the storytelling moments that tear me up when making comics, things like pacing and such, bug the hell out of me. I have no problem with gutters, or breaking the page, or anything, (well, maybe landscapes) The reader experience is the most important so they can feel that they being shown, but not led, to anything in particular, making their choices from what I provide.
Pain in the dick, I tell you.
On a lighter note, if you’re in the Miami area this Friday night, check out the “Arsenals & Agenda” Group show I’m going to be taking a part off. I was at the gallery on Sunday, dropping off the work, and man, it’s gonna be good! That same night, across the street at the MOCA, their doing this huge blow out too, with a live show, so pass by and check it out!
UPDATE: We got a sweet mention in the Broward New Times about the Arsenals Show, featuring some work by my friend, George Rios! Man this is gonna be awesome!
ALSO: I will be attending Florida Supercon, BUT I won’t have a table. I was talking it over with my publisher and really we couldn’t get enough to fill up the table. BUT NEXT YEAR!?! Aw man, we’re gonna rock a lot of joints, just wait and see.I will be there Saturday passing out flyers, so don’t be afraid to come up and say “what up?”
